All aboard the retro train
Have you ever driven down the road and seen a sign like this?
It reminds me of a simpler time. I time before Twitter, Facebook, or even Netscape. Lol.
I was driving down 82nd Avenue and noticed that all the hangout spots I used to visit are gone. Much like the picture you see on the right. I remember White Knights, Bill’s, Dick’s, and even that dive called The Nest.
I have no Idea if anyone that reads this will remember those, but I do. I remember running down to WK’s after school (literally running), I remember the spring sunshine and the cool Washington air.
I took a drive up to Seattle on the weekend and thought about the Kingdom and how all of Seattle has changed. I mean I still recognize the city I grew up in, but is isn’t the same city anymore.
I visited my Dad down in Olympia and had the same feeling. He is still running the roofing company in Olympia. As I pulled in to the shop I saw that old familiar sign. The roofing sign that I designed back in 1996. Roofing Company Olympia
I can’t help but think of how where and when I grew up helped to impact my designs more than I care to know or realize. If you happend to be in the area and see this sign or my Dad’s Sign please take a pic and share it with me.
Well this has been a very different post than I intended it to be. I wish everyone well and hope you have a great 2012 Summer work season.
One last note: Do you remember the cost of a Hamburger at Knights back in 1958? Or what about a Full meal deal at Eddies?
It was only .19
I so long for those days where we would talk instead of text. Write instead of email. Oh the days.
